ORANGE 3 NORDIC COCKTAILS

Orange 3 presents its original Nordic Cocktail Menu. We used the concept devised by our Chef, Sauli Kemppainen, to create a short specialty menu reflecting traditions of the New Nordic cuisine. It is precisely for this reason that herbs, especially rosemary, which gives a tint of pine, and spices, such as nutmeg and anise, including almond, are the essential ingredients of all our cocktails. The cocktail menu resembles a geographical map. It has four sections: Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Each section comprises five different cocktails inspired by the original culture of each of the four countries.

Each item in the bar menu includes hashtags to describe the cocktail and “hyperlinks” inviting guests to taste a similar cocktail of a “different country”.

The Orange 3 bar menu reflects the philosophy of the New Nordic cuisine just like the restaurant’s food menu: it is multicultural, yet founded on typical Scandinavian neatness, simplicity and freshness.

Denmark

Danish Cookies

It is not hard to guess that this cocktail is inspired by the traditional Danish dessert. To create the cocktail’s special structure we used egg yolk and rum, with ginger, vanilla and a little anise giving it a spicy taste. It is a fine Christmas-style digestive.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is one of Denmark’s symbols – she is the main character of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy-tale and the one whose monument, created by the son of the Carlsberg brewery’s founder, stands in Copenhagen’s port. Now the name of Little Mermaid has acquired a new meaning: it is a light girly sour cocktail based on gin and peach puree. Egg-white gives the cocktail a fine structure, while a thin layer of wine endows it with a spicy, yet profound taste.

Rugbrød

This is the name of the rye bread that the Danish people enjoy and the main ingredient of the smørrebrød popular Danish sandwiches. Since the day it opened, Orange 3 has become famous for its delicious bread with orange flavor. Rugbrød is a Manhattan-style cocktail with tints of bread. It has a body of four-time steamed out kvass with the soul of blended Scotch. To awake an orange mood, some orange liquor is added.

Tivoli

The cocktail is inspired by Tivoli Gardens, the oldest amusement park in Europe. It has the same goal: it is light and very fresh. Gin and limoncello provide for a strong foundation of the cocktail, keeping it delicate, whereas the elder and jasmine tea determine the aroma and taste. It is an aperitif.

Hans Christian Andersen

The Danish writer and poet, author of the world-famous stories for both children and adults, such as “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”, “The Princess and the Pea”, “Ole Lukøje”, “The Snow Queen” and many others gave his name to the cocktail with a Nordic flavor, pleasant and easy to understand, like the fairy-tales of his.

Norway

The Fisherman

Norway is famous for its fisheries and the manly profession of a fisherman. A strong and very masculine cocktail with a vibrancy of smoke and sea (Scotch infused on lapsang souchong smoke-cured tea), full-bodied (vermouth) and bitter (Fernet-Branca), it reminds guests of the hard life of the North Sea fishermen. It is a drink for whiskey lovers. A new vision of the classical Hanky-Panky cocktail.

Fjord

The amazing broken line of sea cliffs with their eternal beauty is another must-see attraction of Norway. The miracle of the Northern nature is reflected in our Fjord cocktail. It is a long drink with a deep, rich unfolding taste.
A-Ha
A-Ha is a Norwegian musical band founded in Oslo in 1982. Our cocktail is strong and sweet, and reminds of A-Ha’s robust music and gentle vocals. Whiskey, liquor, chestnut and vanilla!

Bjørndalen

This cocktail in named after the supermasculine, fantastic Norwegian biathlete and the most medaled Olympian in the history of the Winter Olympics. The drink has a fresh and piney taste due to rosemary, almond and gin extracts. The way the cocktail is served reminds of a biathlon skiing run with pine trees and snow…

Valkyrie

The image of the epic Norse female warriors who fly over the battlefield on winged horses and take the souls of the slain warriors to Valhalla, where they serve them mead at the feasts, has taken shape in our super sexy port wine cocktail. It is served in a glass reflecting the curves of a female body.

Sweden

Fika

The Swedes love coffee, especially with almond. The Swedish tradition of having a cup of coffee after lunch is called “fika”. We have given this name to our new cocktail variation of the classic Espresso Martini drink. The aroma of nutmeg and coffee, mixed with the taste of almond in the Maraschino liquor, create a delicious and inspiring party cocktail.

Valhalla

The heavenly hall in the city of gods, the paradise for the fallen warriors, is a good association for a strong digestive cocktail. It is mixed from Pedro Ximénez honey-flavored sherry to give the sweet taste of victory, Fernet-Branca liquor to add a drop of bitterness reminding of the old wounds and glorious battles and the wonderful fragrant rum as the cocktail base. The glass is decorated with powdered sugar as a reminder of perpetual snows.

Nobel

This strong cocktail with an explosive character is named after one of the greatest personalities in the Swedish history, who invented dynamite and established the prize bearing his own name. The herbs of Becherovka liquor give it a Nordic taste, while vanilla brings about a round and soft contour. A paradise apple on top is a symbol of dangerous knowledge.

Karlsson

To continue with the great Swedes, we can’t but remember the favorite children’s cartoon character Karlsson who lives on the roof and is a great confiture lover. A light cocktail with berries based on tequila and raspberry is served in a glass with a lid, which resembles a jar of confiture.

Mamma mia!

A cover of the legendary ABBA’s hit turned into a cocktail with an Italian tint of grappa and cinnamon, joined by the Nordic vodka and red currant!

Finland

Basil Caipiroska

Vodka is a drink as national for the Finns as it is for the Russians, so we have twisted the classical Caipiroska cocktail to create an original drink served without ice and having a herbal emphasis – that of sweet basil and thyme (Hello, Sauli!).

Salmiak

“Salmiak” is the Finnish for liquorice sweets with an astounding sweet and salty taste. Our fusion Salmiak liquorice cocktail is made of rum, liquorice syrup, salt and sambuca.

Sima

Sima is a refreshing Finnish drink resembling the Russian mead with a very low content of alcohol. Inspired by this drink, we have mixed an aperitif cocktail with sparkling wine and honey garnishing it with… radish to add contrast!

Aegir’s Punch

Aegir is a Norse god, the lord of the underwater kingdom. A noble host of the feasts that gods enjoy together, who boils sea storms in his cauldron in his free time. We have prepared a long drink drawn by this mythological character (it is hard to imagine old gods fancying shots) with a Nordic accent of sea-buckthorn and ginger.

Mustikka

Finland is rich in forest berries, especially blue whortleberries. Among traditional Finnish desserts are Mustikkapiirakka, a shortcrust pastry pie with whortleberries, and Mustikkapulla, a whortleberry bun. To follow the idea, we have prepared a sparkling whortleberry cocktail.
